Abstract

|
Pharmacological effect of alkaloid fraction of cayratia japonica was investigated in rabbit ileum.
Cayratia alkaloid over 10-5g/ml concentration, induced contraction of rabbit ileum. Hexamethonium, atropine and tetracaine did not prevent cayratia alkaloid-induced contraction.
Promethazine inhibited the contractile response to cayratia alkaloid. It is suggested that cayratia alkaloid-induced contraction of rabbit ileum is due to the release of histamine from intestinal tissue.
